Espraksas are a race of bird-like humanoids native to the planet Neeroon in Near Space.1
Appearance
Espraksas resemble their avian ancestors, though with the characteristic features of a thick insulating collar of neck feathers and long feathers extending from the inner corners of their eyes which function like antennae. The color of their plumage varies based on their ancestor's environment, including brown, red-brown (russet), and gray. Espraksas are tall for their size, ranging from 7 to 8 feet in height. As their avian appearance indicates, they remain relatively lightweight at only 125 to 200 pounds.
Abilities
Espraksas retain the ability to fly. They are known for their wanderlust and gregariousness, making friends easily and making enemies only under extreme conditions.
Society
Espraksa society is free-spirited, open, and very social. Their settlements are traditionally built into treetops, in part to minimize their impact on the surrounding environment. With increased off-world tourism, however, they have made accommodations for flightless visitors.
Rule of law is important to espraksas, though wisdom and compassion are valued equally. They highly value diversity of skills, to the extent that focusing on one area of expertise at the expense of others is considered a character flaw.
Espraksas often embark on a journey through the wider galaxy as an unofficial coming-of-age tradition. Most return to Neeroon afterward, which can be decades later.
Religion
Espraksas consider themselves offspring of Desna and Weydan. They call this pairing the Wings.
Sex and Gender
Male espraksas have feathered crests on their heads which can be used to express emotions.
