The continent of Asana on the Pact Worlds planet Castrovel is home to the lashuntas, and neighbors the formian-inhabited continent of the Colonies.1

Geography

Asana is the largest of Castrovel's four major continents, and is home to a wide variety of biomes including jungles, snow-covered mountains, and rocky deserts. Most of its population live on or near the coasts, while the interior of the continent is largely unmapped and poorly understood.2 To the east of Asana lies the Lemenore Ocean, while its western shore is bordered by the Western Sea. To the southwest is the Shattered Sea that seperates it from the continent of the Colonies, while the Snowsalt Sea and the Sea of Teeth lie between Asana and Sovyrian to the south.3

History

Lashuntas naturally gravitate toward the promotion of individualism, while the ant-like formians (one of the other two major sentient species native to Castrovel) are fiercely collectivist. It was therefore only a matter of time before these two native telepathic species came into conflict. This conflict eventually blossomed into a millennia-long war that was fought across the planet, particularly on the unaligned continent of Ukulam. This war only came to a close when the shirren, a relatively recently-arrived (and also telepathic) species brokered a peace deal in 287 AG.45 This event is believed to have been necessary for the foundation of the Pact Worlds government in the system in 291 AG.6

Following the signing of the peace treaty, both sides in the conflict began to scale back their militaries and withdraw from their bases on Ukulam, leaving behind only a token presence.7

Politics

Asana is the home continent of the lashuntas, who predominantly live in dozens of independent city-states who compete with one another but always unite to protect themselves from outsiders.2 Due to the continent's incredible biodiversity and fertility, Asana is the breadbasket of the Pact Worlds system and is also attractive to research organizations. Its greatest assets, however, are the lashunta people themselves. Their charismatic, educated, and telepathic nature makes them a naturally talented and passionate work force for system-wide corporations. The political influence of these corporations in the affairs of the city-states have grown exponentially in recent years, and many lashunta worry that Castrovel will soon follow Akiton's example, where commerical concerns nearly always trump the well-being of the general populace.8
