Northern Steps

The Northern Steps are a region of broad plateaus in northeastern Ukulam on the planet Castrovel. They descend in height as one travels north and east and end in dramatic cliffs at the Western Sea that were smoothed out during the planet's last glaciation period. The Northern Steps were formed by the same tectonic activity that formed the Singing Range to their south and west.

Climate

The Northern Steps are quite cold due to their latitude combined with the katabatic wind and rain that blows down off the northern Kai-Hebla Ice Sheet.

Flora & fauna

The northern part of the region is covered by a thick taiga of cacti, and the shovel-footed purhuams that graze the plains regularly dig up meteoric iron and scrimshaw-decorated bones of extinct species.
