Ikal Expanse

The Ikal Expanse is the Castrovelian continent of Ukulam's vast southern deciduous forest. Its gigantic trees are overshadowed only by the titanic mushrooms that sprout up and die only a few weeks later, and the area is thought to be one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems on the planet, perhaps even in all the Pact Worlds system.

Fauna

Like the trees and mushrooms that grow in the Ikal Expanse, many of the native animal species also tend to be very large. The best known of these are yaruks, who are capable of pushing over trees in their search for food. This destruction helps thin the forest, however, creating opportunities for smaller and younger plant and mushroom species to get their start.

Insight dust

The spores of one of the titanic mushrooms that grow in the Ikal Expanse is used by the lashunta to manufacture insight dust, a drug that increases psychic empathy and other mental abilities.

Explorers & tourism

The dense forest of the Ikal Expanse makes it difficult to navigate and its native flora and fauna make it quite dangerous as well, but that doesn't stop the foolhardy from regularly searching it for the ruins of lost civilizations. They are opposed in their efforts by the Esowath Conservancy, who regularly patrol the Expanse from their Esowath Nexus base on Ukulam's western coast. Tourists to the continent can hire guides for short excursions from Waklohar's Expeditions, located on Ukulam's southeastern coast.
