Krethiskar is a planet in Near Space that used to be part of the Szandite Collective. It fell silent some time interstellar travel became possible and was recently discovered to have been consumed by a Swarm subcolony.

Geography

Krethiskar is a barren world whose seas are red with chemical runoff, cities lay abandoned, the earth is gouged and scarred by war. The entire planet is bathed in noxious green clouds.

History

Krethiskar was one of the eight inhabited planets which experienced meteor showers that deposited szandite crystals on their surfaces in the distant past. These crystals, which function as communication devices, allowed the people of Krethiskar to make contact with the seven other planets and undergo a technomagical revolution, and Krethiskar became one of the eight constituent planets of the Szandite Collective.

Not long after the Collective's foundation, Krethiskar was invaded by the Swarm. Its citizens attempted to send out distress calls to fellow Collective members, but these messages were scrambled by Swarm szynegators, who can manipulate signals and cause technological interference. When the Swarm consumed the szandite crystals on Krethiskar, the hive mind did not gain access to the crystals' information network; instead, the Swarm forces on Krethiskar were cut off from the hive mind and lulled into a psychically induced slumber.

Since the end of the Gap, a branch of the Szandite Collective has dedicated itself to locating Krethiskar. In studying the communication logs stored within the szandite crystals, Collective researchers discovered an encrypted plea for help overlaid by mundane messages originating from Krethiskar. Palivhar Chooser of Hues, a member of the Starfinder Society's Forum and a citizen of the Szandite Collective, experienced a vivid, recurring dream of a voice reaching across time and space, which eventually led to the rediscovery of Krethiskar.

In 324 AG, Pavlihar led an expedition to Krethiskar's surface to conduct an exploratory survey of the planet and determine what happened to the people. In doing so, the Starfinder Society inadvertently awoke the dormant Swarm subcolony, which immediately begun an invasion of the Szandite Collective.

Inhabitants

Krethiskar is a barren huskworld, subsumed by a primordial strain of the Swarm. After being cut off from the hive mind, this Swarm subcolony has rapidly evolved, resulting in unique components such as the bastorox and emganat.
