Programmers are Swarm components that analyse, access, isolate and change DNA.1 They serve a vital role by protecting growing Swarm larvae and activating or deactivating sections of their genomes as desired, causing them to mature into useful forms. Programmers grow from larvae allowed to mature without genetic editing.2
