Escutchides are Swarm components that serve the purpose of defending semi-permanent Swarm bases, like nesting sites or mines; they are seldom deployed as part of invasion forces and thus rarely seen by the Swarm's enemies. In battle, they shield other components from enemies, allowing them to freely to complete their tasks or attack with ranged weapons. Escutchides are broad and sturdy, stand about 8 feet high and weigh half a ton. A large horn, half as long as the escutchide itself, protrudes from its head, and serves to stab and knock down enemies. Due to their large wings, escutchides are surprisingly capable flyers.
