Lawful evil is an alignment used to describe a person or group that believes in using the rules of society to get ahead and who do not care whom they hurt along the way. They support civilization's laws as long as they benefit from them personally, and generally see a functioning society as always better than chaos. Lawful evil individuals tend to keep their word and obey laws and traditions, but are indifferent to freedom, dignity, and life (other than their own).
