Language
Language is any specific complex system of communication.1
In the Pact Worlds
The standard shared language of most races in the Pact Worlds system is Common. Most races and planets also have their own languages:2
- Akitonian (Akiton)
- Aklo (Aucturn)
- Brethedan (Bretheda, Liavara, and their moons)
- Castrovelian, also called Lashunta (Castrovel, lashuntas)
- Eoxian (Eox)
- Kasatha
- Shirren
- Triaxian (Triaxus)
- Vercite (Verces)
- Vesk
- Ysoki
Other languages are also spoken in the Pact Worlds, though not as widely:2
- Arkanen (Arkanen, Osoro)
- Draconic (dragons, reptilian humanoids, Triaxian dragonkin)
- Drow (drow, Apostae)
- Elven (elves, drow, half-elves)
- Gnome (gnomes)
- Goblin (goblins, bugbears, hobgoblins, and other goblinoids)
- Halfling (halflings)
- Kalo (kalo, Kalo-Mahoi)
- Nchaki (Nchak)
- Orc (orcs, half-orcs)
- Sarcesian (sarcesians)
- Shobhad (shobhads)
In distant systems
Cultures, civilizations, and empires far from the Pact Worlds system have their own languages as well:2
In the Great Beyond
Inhabitants of planes outside of the Material Plane also have unique languages:2
- Abyssal (demons and other outsider inhabitants of the Abyss)
- Aklo (Dominion of the Black)
- Aquan (Plane of Water)
- Auran (Plane of Air)
- Celestial (angels, outsiders of good alignments, inhabitants of good-aligned planes)
- Infernal (devils, outsiders of lawful evil alignment, Hell)
- Ignan (Plane of Fire)
- Terran (Plane of Earth)
Telepathy
Some creatures, including shirrens and lashunta, can also communicate through psychic or supernatural telepathy. Some forms of telepathy require language, while others do not.3
