Cayden Cailean is a now almost forgotten pre-gap deity who originated on Golarion and was known for his skill with a weapon and his love of revelry and drink.1
History
Cayden Cailean is believed to have begun life as a mortal mercenary on Golarion who walked drunk into the cathedral that housed the Starstone after a series of escalating bets and dares. He emerged laughing several days later, having ascended to godhood seemingly by chance (and giving him the nickname "the Accidental God") and adopted the portfolio of freedom, bravery, and alcohol. His faith quickly spread until his tankard holy symbol could be found in drinking establishments nearly everywhere on the planet.1
While most other deities refuse to admit their lack of knowledge regarding the Gap, Cayden Cailean freely admits his own ignorance. He explains his seeming amnesia with jokes about "cosmic blackouts" but doesn't hide the pain the loss of these memories has caused him. In fact, immediately after emerging from the Gap, Cayden Cailean fell into a deep depression and sought refuge and answers in intoxicants for several decades. Because of his unreliable and erratic nature during his time, Cayden lost most of his followers. He finally emerged from this state with a newfound commitment to help mortals deal not only with the pain of loss caused by the Gap, but also to help those struggling with addiction to alcohol and other intoxicants.1
Dogma
Cayden Cailean has stepped away from his previous incarnation as the god of alcohol and bars, and his few remaining temples are dedicated to recovery, merriment, and happy meetings. He is a staunch ally to communities who are displaced, dispossessed, or disenfranchised and rejects bigotry or xenophobia of all kinds. He encourages his followers to welcome anyone and to create accessible environments that anyone may call home and where people from various cultures may peacefully coexist.1
Relationships
Cayden Cailean's faithful find common cause with those of Hylax and the two gods have become close. Cayden has also become friends with the dwarven deity Angradd after helping him cope with the loss of his brother Torag.1
Temples
His best known temple, a pub called the Fortunate Sun, is located in the city of Gaskari on the Vast planet Gaskar III.2 He is also remembered, along with other abandoned gods of Golarion such as Shelyn and Torag, in shrines on Bretheda's moon of Yashu-Indiri in the Pact Worlds system.3
