Cybernetics
Cybernetics represent a class of technology designed to be implanted into living creatures and are a form of augmentation. Some are subtle, with perhaps only cosmetic effects, while others can add to, replace, or improve body parts, or heighten cognitive functions. Cybernetics are not just machines, but are a complex melding of technology and the recepient's organs and body parts. This generally makes them impervious to assaults that only target technology or robots.1
Installation & removal
Installing a cybernetic augmentation in a body is a specialized medical procedure that requires a cybernetic surgeon or someone with equal medical training. Such surgeries generally require at least an hour, but can take much longer depending on the complexity of the cybernetic device. Removing a cybernetic augmentation is an equally difficult and time-consuming procedure. Each cybernetic augmentation is personally coded to the person into which it is installed, and this coding cannot be changed to someone else, which means that removed cybernetic augmentations cannot be reimplanted into someone else, making them practically worthless.2
Activation
Cybernetic implants are always on and are wired directly into the recepient's nervous system for easier control.2
