Protocite
Protocites are constructs who inhabit Noma, a bubble-city located in the Pact Worlds sun. They are distant cousins to the anacites of Aballon.1
Appearance
Protocites are varied in form and function, much like anacites, and share many features with their cousins. Several protocite models can improve their own forms. Protocites count both models functionally identical to their anacite counterparts (like laborers), and those unknown to their kin, like reclaimers, speakers, heat-sinks, and some truly one-of-a-kind models.12
Ecology
Protocites are generated by the neural network of Noma, the eponymous artificial intelligence that controls the city. Due to its position inside the sun, Noma has an almost unlimited source of energy to build protocites.3
The tiny heat-sink protocites can be found all across Noma, especially near the bubble that separates it from the rest of the sun. When needed, they absorb and store excess heat, to be later redistributed to cooler areas and preventing the formation of dangerous hot spots. Clouds of nanobot-sized protocites can be seen migrating in sudden, bizarre patterns across Noma.1
History
Protocites do not remember their origin; their connection to the First Ones who seeded Aballon with the anacites is undeniable but unclear. While anacites were created as resource harvesters, protocites were intended to be experiments in form and function.123
Society
Each protocite performs the task assigned to it by Noma's guiding AI. Different protocites rarely interact with others, even when they meet.1
