Speakers are protocites built by Noma's controlling AI to carry out preprogrammed tasks in imitation of sapient creatures and their communities. Numerous speaker communities exist across Noma, and conform to principles like 'value the greater good' or 'shun those with different limb configurations'. Speakers usually never leave their home sector and power down after finishing their tasks, to be ground back into polyfluid by reclaimers. A small minority of speakers have no predetermined tasks, and spend their decades-long lives observing and guiding others before their knowledge is transferred to Noma's Core. Most speakers are not hostile toward visitors, but are either unable or unwilling to say anything about their actions; it is possible that they only receive instructions as they need them to carry out their tasks. Speakers have roughly humanoid frames with reconfigurable bodies, capable of mimicking various physical features and mannerisms.
