Noma is a city located deep within the Pact Worlds sun. An artificial intelligence, also called Noma, controls the city and uses its resources to fabricate the constructs known as protocites.1

Geography

Noma is divided into numerous hexagonal sectors separated by shallow canals. The entire city is constructed from polyfluid, a purple liquid that can be arranged into any atomic configuration. Many parts of the city are filled with modern-looking buildings like other technologically advanced civilisations, except for the bizarre architectural details: buildings have large, opaque mirrors for windows, blocks that look entirely identical to each other except for a small detail,... Some sectors are filled with even stranger buildings, like angular spires jutting from viscous pools, or ringed edifices connected in a way that serve no architectural purpose. Others are apparently in ruins (but careful examination reveals them to have been deliberately built like that), and yet others are architectural chimaerae or look like vertical slices of normal cities.1

The centre of Noma's activity is the Core, which is by far its oldest part. Unlike the deliberately-old-looking sectors, the Core's age is actual.12

The layout of Noma's hexagonal grid is disparate has no clear pattern. Even those that look similar can be chalked up to coincidence.1

History

Noma's origin is shrouded in mystery and further complicated by the Gap, which is speculated to have either disrupted the Noma AI or turned it into an autonomous AI from one that took orders frm living creatures. Whatever its origin, Noma's builders certainly put massive efforts into building it, and its connection to the First Ones who seeded Aballon with the anacites is undeniable. Evidence implies that they might have created Noma with a different purpose from Aballon.1

It is clear that Noma received bizarre visitor(s) some time in the distant past, who left behind evidence, visions and memories in Noma's Core. Recently, creatures from the Plane of Fire invaded Noma and damaged some parts of it, including the bubble that shields it from the sun.1

People

Noma's residents are the protocites, who share many features with the anacites of Aballon. Despite its small population, Noma has a diverse number of quasi-social structures.1
