Izadamar, known as Izald-Mar by the native izalguuns, is an ancient megacity on Agillae-4. After a long period of abandonment, it was recently resettled and now serves as a gateway to the Scoured Stars.12

Geography

The core of both ancient and modern Izadamar is a spaceport, which built the starships with which the izalguuns used to leave the Scoured Stars. When the jinsuls took over, they demolished hundreds of buildings to create a perimeter road around the spaceport. Most end abruptly after less than a mile, which also marks the borders of modern Izadamar. Beyond the newly-resettled areas is an urban jungle reclaimed by wildlife, defended by ancient technology and likely hiding treasures from a bygone age, which most inhabitants simply call the Ruin. Every year, more and more of the Ruin is reclaimed and resettled.3

Government

Izadamar is ruled by a council of representatives from each major organisation represented by the population. Due to its role in refounding the city, the Triaxian corporation Frozen Trove Labs occupies the most prominent seat. Any group that brings enough numbers and support is granted a seat, which quickly brings legitimacy to the council. Other groups that currently hold seats include lashuntas from Castrovelian universities, thyrs from the Fastness of the Past, two different izalguun lobbies, dwarf miners from Ulrikka Clanholdings, the budget tech start-up ProsperoCo, the Aspis Consortium and the Starfinder Society.4 Shell companies owned by Frozen Trove, ProsperoCo and the Aspis Consortium have started requesting council seats, in an attempt of their parent companies to expand influence.5

History

Izald-Mar was one of the 20 hyper-industrialised, semi-automated metropolises built by the ancient izalguuns that cover most of Agillae-4's surface. After they fled the Scoured Stars to escape from their overbearing patron deity Kadrical, the cities slowly fell to ruin, though various buildings and defenders survived the millennia. When the jinsuls returned to the Scoured Stars, they converted part of old Izald-Mar into a military base in preparations to conquer the system. After the Starfinder Society defeated the jinsuls, a team of scientists from Triaxus and izalguuns returning to their ancestral home established Data Relay 13, a long-term camp in the downtown of Izadamar, which then started to be resettled in earnest by archaeologists, ecologists, explorers, historians, corporations, prospectors, descendants of the Scoured Stars' indigenous peoples, and new converts to Kadrical's faith.36

People

The vast majority of Izadamar's residents are new arrivals who have only been present since 319 AG, with the rare few exceptions being survivors of the Starfinder Society's doomed expedition to the Scoured Stars and those izalguuns who have stayed on Agillae-4 instead of leaving with most of their kin. A few of them have permanently settled in the city (which they still call Izald-Mar) and work as guides, identifying dangers and opportunities for expeditions in the Ruin.2

Many residents in Izadamar are adventurers and educated professionals who either seek knowledge or plunder.2 New arrivals appear monthly, due to the habitability and opportunities found in the Scoured Stars. Three recent corporations are Belkraine Industries, Temetera and OiGoCorp, who are currently performing exploratory missions throughout the Agillae, Bastiar and Callion systems. Delegations have also been sent from Apostae (who seeks unique weapons to reverse-engineer and mass produce), Verces (whose agents are investigating whether the technological wonders are worth investing in) and the Idari (whose envoys are searching for a permanent home from one of the planets in the Scoured Stars).4

Another large percentage of settlers, called the Returned, consist of species that originated from and have recently returned to the Scoured Stars after having lived in diaspora for millennia. Their grudge against Kadrical have waned after many generations, and many now simply seek to rediscover their ancestral home.2 On the council, they focus on preserving and reclaiming the Scoured Stars for the native peoples.4

The most controversial residents are Kadrical's followers, who limit the removal of archaeological artefacts and resources, both to preserve the culture and placate the god. For his part, Kadrical, despite his historical jealous and overbearing attitude toward the Scoured Stars' inhabitants, has allowed the system to join the galactic community and its inhabitants to freely travel.2 Through the kasathas, Talavet's faith has spread to Izadamar to collaborate with Kadrical's church to revive local traditions. AbadarCorp is conspicuous in its absence; its executive-priests seem afraid of Kadrical, and Abadar's reputation for acquisition might enrage him.5

In the early days after Izadamar was resettled, the bold, outspoken nature of many pioneers led to friction. One of the council's first objectives was to quash a nascent duelling culture; while disputes are now rarely settled through violence, many unresolved grudges remain and periodically awaken. Nevertheless, the spirit of cooperation remains firm, since with the threats lurking in the Ruin, people recognise that infighting could easily lead to doom.4
