Nelentu
Nelentus are the result of mutualistic symbiosis between the entu and the neleks, a species of fruit-eating, bat-like animals. They are one of the most prominent and successful examples of symbiosis between the entu and another species, and one of the original member races of the Kreiholm Freehold.12
Habitat
Nelentus live in layered cities built around green spaces known as Gardens of Thought, where they cultivate entu spores.2
History
The neleks originated from the planet Agillae-2, in the Scoured Stars. Early in their history, the neleks, then a species of unintelligent beasts, encountered entu spores, who colonised their bodies and enhanced their brains. Both species thrived, attained intelligence, and consensually formed a society. Since then, nelentus have considered themselves a single species.12
In the Scoured Stars, the nelentus lived under the protection of their domineering patron deity Kadrical, who isolated the Scoured Stars from the rest of the universe with the Godshield despite his worshippers' pleas. Eventually, when the shield faltered, they and the other residents of the Scoured Stars took the opportunity to escape and settle elsewhere in the galaxy. The nelentus came together with several other species, eventually settling on the planet Saaruq 5, founding the Kreiholm Freehold, named after the leader who brought them there, and integrating the indigenous syngnathrixes into their federation.34
