Valkyrie
More information about this subject might be available on PathfinderWiki. |
Valkyrie are outsiders from the Maelstrom who scour the battlefields of the Material Plane looking for fallen warriors to protect on their journey to the Boneyard.1
Appearance
Valkyries appear as powerful, striking and majestic women of various species, most often humans and vesk. A human valkyrie is 6 feet tall and weighs nearly 200 pounds; a vesk valkyrie is 8 feet tall and weighs around 300 pounds. They utilise weapons and armor that blend powerful magic with cutting edge nanocarbon and polymer technology, having forgone their traditional sleipnir and pegasus mounts following the Gap.1
Ecology
Valkyries search for legendary combatants across the battlefields of the Material Plane, supernaturally aware of those who wish to fight on another day and those who have accepted death. Their sacred duty is to claim the souls of fallen heroes and protect them on their journey to the Boneyard to be judged; what qualifies a hero for this honour varies greatly between different cultures and religions. Valkyries also aid those who are near death or recently dead, but are still driven to fight on.1
Society
Valkyries adapted space travel long before most mortals to faciliate their quest, and are recognised by many cultures across the Material Plane as choosers of the slain. Many theories have been posited concerning valkyries and their purpose; some speculate that they divert souls from their course and collect them for entertainment or some bloody conflict in the future, but this hypothesis holds no merit when one takes into account the lack of conflicts between them and psychopomps. Valkyries sometimes gift their weapons or armour to mortals they deem worthy.1
Religion
Valkyries are often, but not always, associated with deities of conflict and courage, and are speculated to have complex, ever-changing affiliations to them. The faith of Damoritosh accords them a special place as their god's Spear Maidens.1
