Plasma oozes are oozes made out of electromagnetic energy that live near the surface of stars.1

Appearance

A plasma ooze is a complex, spherical array of brilliant pink, purple and blue lights that can reach white-hot intensity at some points. It is 20 feet in diameter and weighs 6,000 pounds.1

Ecology

Since before the Gap, ancient scholars have speculated that plasma oozes originate from the Plane of Fire and migrate to the stars of inhabited solar systems. When deserted cities were discovered within the Sun of the Pact Worlds system and Plane of Fire natives claimed that there were cultures living deeper within the Sun, new theories appeared.1

According to one of the most popular hypotheses (without much supporting evidence), plasma oozes were originally created by the Burning Archipelago's builders, but turned on them and wiped them out. Sarenrae's faithful fervently oppose this hypothesis, insisting that she created plasma oozes to protect the stars.1

Plasma oozes are usually seen near a star's surface just before a solar flare, and evidence points to solar flares being involved in their reproduction. They are also attracted to powerful electromagnetic phenomena in various systems.1

Shortly after the advent of Drift travel, an enormous plasma ooze, far bigger than those in the Pact Worlds' Sun, was spotted in the Drift. Later sightings report it getting bigger and bigger, and it is unknown how it entered the Drift at the first place: it might have been ripped from the Material Plane, have a deeper connection with the Drift, or can access this plane via electromagnetic field distortion.1

Plasma oozes distort electromagnetism, disabling vehicles and starships that come nearby, and their magnetic aura can attract metals. Wounds inflicted by a plasma ooze resemble hideously melted burn scars.1

Society

A small group of ifrits who have served in militaries claim to be hunting plasma oozes actively, and have extensively prepared defensive gear and sonic weaponry to kill plasma oozes and augment their natural resistance to fire. They seem to be taking a considerable risk, but will likely charge a hefty cost. An AbadarCorp subsidiary based in the Burning Archipelago has partially reverse-engineered the plasma ooze's plasma draining ability, creating a prototype plasma diverter.1
