The Gideron Authority is a militaristic nation in Near Space that has recently begun a series of rapid expansions following a military coup and has come into conflict with the neighbouring Marixah Republic.1

Holdings

Since taking power, the Gideron Authority has rapidly expanded, and now controls the entirety of the Gideron system and more than a dozen planets beyond.2

History

Gideron Prime, capital of the Gideron Authority, has no native life, and was settled by various species who left their homes during the Gap. Recently, the elected civilian government was overthrown by a military junta that proclaimed itself the Gideron Authority and claims that the previous government failed to protect civilians from Marixah privateers, although some view this as no more than a naked power grab.12

People

Hobgoblins and their ja noi and kanabo cousins are the predominant force in the Gideron Authority and form much of its military leadership, though the ja noi prefer spiritual roles. The rest of the population consists of various other Near Space species that migrated to the Gideron system generations ago. The Authority carefully controls immigration and the flow of ideas, entrenching notions of xenophobia.12

The Authority values battle-readiness and, after the military coup, almost all citizens have gone through basic military training to defend themselves and the Authority if needed.3

Relations

The Gideron Prime's current nemesis is the Gideron Authority, its closest neighbour and rival whose free-thinking, multicultural society is a clear threat to the Authority. Gideron propaganda often emphasises the Republic's irresponsible freedom, destabilising influence and doctrine of pirating Gideron starships.2 The conflict between the Gideron Authority and the Marixah Republic has recently escalated, with the Authority blockading some sections of Republic territory; since hobgoblins once lived in those regions, the Authority believes in the right to claim them for itself. While the conflict has so far been restricted to space battles, the fears of ground invasions escalate with each passing month, culminating in the Authority's annexation of the Acalata system in 318 AG.14

Other than buying arms from House Zeizerer, the Gideron Authority has few formal ties with the Pact Worlds. The Authority recognises the importance of historical research, and believes that remaining in the Starfinder Society's graces will keep the Pact Worlds from allying with the Marixah Republic.14
