Rendalairns, nicknamed planet slayers, are engimatic, colossal metallic spheres of unknown origin, seemingly built for the purpose of seeking and destroying whole civilisations.1

Appearance

A rendalairn resembles a sphere with a diameter of 30 feet. They can extend razor-edged lashes around themselves that can reach up to 60 feet. In addition to these lashes, rendalairns also attack with disintegrator rays and fields of seismic waves which disrupt technology. Their weight is estimated to be at least 50 tons. The only identifying marks on a rendalairn are bright circular markings that change over time.1

Ecology

There are two accounts of a rendalairn landing on and rampaging through a planet, destroying everything it could find. They seem to be specific in choosing targets and do not interfere with others. During the attack on Brimippé III, scavengers from orbit received a polite message to stay away from the demolition site and transmissions of random media from pre-extinction Brimippé III. On Grixis VI, the few explorers who managed to escape told of the rendalairn broadcasting its warning and then enacting the demolition with no concern for bystanders. Both of these worlds are home to the ruins of two extinct technologically advanced civilisations, giving rise to the fear that the Pact Worlds or Veskarium might become targets in the future.1

Habitat

Rendalairns have only been seen hurtling in the Vast, suggesting that they might originate from a dark corner of or beyond the galaxy.1

Society

Multiple rendalairns have never been seen at the same time, leading to the hypothesis that the rendalairn is a unique creature, and descriptional disparities can be attributed to errors in observation. The speculation that rendalairns are similar to tripods and might have been made by the same creators is considered unlikely due to the broadcasts but have not been disproved. Many expeditions have been launched into the Vast to dispel the rendalairns' enigma, but most return fruitless, and a few do not come back at all.1
