The Oatia were a pre-Gap civilization of astronomer elves on Castrovel who split from those of Sovyrian to build the city of Loskialua on Ukulam and observe the stars from the northern hemisphere. 1 They were early space travelers, long before the Drift, and have since populated systems and galaxies far from their original home. 2
History
In their focused isolation far from the rest of elven civilization, Oatia scholar-priests developed magical and otherwise supernatural methods of astronomical surveyance far beyond the capabilities of other pre-Gap civilizations, communicated with distant species, and achieved space travel long before the Drift. 3245
They also established the massive temple complex and observatory called the Temple of the Twelve, one of the greatest observatories of ancient Castrovelian elven culture, at the site of a Desnan shrine on the Alhuenar Spire. 1 The temple became rededicated to Ibra, with whom the Oatia entered contact and began worshipping far before any other society on Castrovel 6—and potentially before Ibra was even a deity 5—and was patterned after their observations of the Gate of Twelve Suns, the existence of which was such a keen mystery to the Oatia that they devoted centuries toward its investigation. 1
Through the use of a ritual, the Celestial Voyage, 3 all of the Oatia abandoned Loskialua for another world through an elf gate, 1 and then repeated the process innumerable times in perpetual pursuit of astronomical discovery until they began to travel across galaxies. 2
Modern Oatia
The Oatia have since inhabited several distant galaxies and systems, including Astevint, Helfen-Thel, Preluria, the Tabori Cluster, and Weydana-4. 27 Oatia travelers also include a group who arrived to a solar system less than a light year from the Gate of Twelve Suns, where they have lived since to become a militant sect of Ibra worshippers. 3
On Castrovel, recent rediscoveries of sites related to the Oatia culture include some of the oldest architectural works on Ukulam, including the Stargazer monument. 8
