Moonflower
More information about this subject might be available on PathfinderWiki. |
Moonflowers are hungry, dangerous carnivorous plants with rudimentary intelligence native to numerous planets.1
Appearance
A moonflower resembles a twisted, knotted, vine-like tendril covered in alien flowers and strange, light-exuding nodules. Atop this central vine is a bulbous growth which functions as the moonflower's mouth. Beneath a moonflower's central stem stretches a network of roots seemingly dug into the ground but which are actually remarkably agile and allow the moonflower to move at the speed of a walking humanoid. Normal moonflowers can reach a height of more than 20 feet, and the largest ones, known as moonflower titans, can grow up to 50 feet tall.1
Ecology
Moonflowers reproduce by creating pod-spawn whose root system is linked to the parent moonflower's; both parent and child share the nutrients from digested prey. It is speculated that they either have a mechanism which prevents them from eating prey to extinction, or can manage the prey population of their habitat. Moonflowers only communicate with other moonflowers via telepathy, not with other creatures. Those that look at a moonflower's thoughts only see images of vast forests ruled by sentient plants.1
Moonflowers flourish in several animal-rich groves in the Pact Worlds system, most notably the island of Feylonar on Castrovel. Moonflower titans, normally rare, thrive on Galvix, a planet where the majority of intelligent creatures are giants, who have a tradition of pruning them every decade or so with the help of invited offworlders.1
