Elemental
(elemental, extraplanar)
More information about this subject might be available on PathfinderWiki. |
An elemental is a creature which is made up completely of one or more of the elements of air, earth, fire, and water. This means that they do not have anatomies and nervous systems. As a result they cannot be stunned, poisoned, or paralysed, and do not have a blind side or vulnerable areas that can be targeted by their enemies. They do not breathe, eat, or sleep, and most hail from one of the Elemental Planes.1
The largest elementals can rival the size of starships, to the point that inexperienced crews have a tendency to mistake them for stellar phenomena. They come in many shapes, and some even take the form of manufactured starships; scholars disagree on whether the purpose of this behavior is to blend in or to lure prey. They tend to leave their fellow elementals alone, but sometimes attack starships that they perceive as threats, especially when pulled into the Material Plane (often accidentally). The largest elementals can be quite dangerous when they appear along busy routes, and usually require an entire solar system's standing fleet to deal with, though there have been rare cases of military forces recruiting such elementals.2
