Xulxede
Xulxedes are a group of several hundred heavily-augmented undead shadow giants who worship Mordiggian and have established a fortress called the Shining Maw to research the remaining reactions of the white dwarf star Acromo. They believe that darkness is not just the absence of light; with the right scientific theorems and paeans to Mordiggian, they could create 'anti-photons' that emit darkness and absorb light.1
Habitat
Due to the Shadow Plane's dim light, xulxedes needed to control a Material Plane star to realise their experiments, and chose Acromo, which they deemed far enough from prying eyes to grant them enough secrecy. However, after building a fortress around a portal to the Shadow Plane, they failed to expect how curious other species could be, and have had to remain on constant guard.1
Society
Xulxedes need little to survive but engage in ghoulish feeding rites that involve eating the flesh of intelligent beings. This food was originally brought via the portal to the Shadow Plane, until it was discovered that the portal discharges a large amount of magical energy that would alert other species; since then, the xulxedes have converted several laboratories to hold and butcher their victims.1
