Ghouls are sentient (but often feral) undead that devour corpses and create more of their kind by spreading a disease known as ghoul fever.1

Ecology

Ghouls spread a virulent disease known as ghoul fever through their saliva. A creature that dies of ghoul fever often rises as a ghoul within 24 hours; if not checked immediately, ghoul fever can quickly lead to an undead population explosion. Ghouls can paralyse victims with their touch, but this ability cannot affect elves.1

Habitat and society

Historically, ghouls haunted graveyards and sewers, preferring to avoid society, but in modern times they tend to live in cities, especially those populated by undead, like Eoxian ones. Ghouls are resourceful and hardy, and make good workers across a variety of industries.1

Variants

Ghasts are more powerful versions of ghouls, strong enough to paralyse even elves. They exude a powerful stench and usually hold important positions in ghoul society. Aquatic ghouls are called lacedons.1
