Whiskered renkroda
The whiskered renkroda is a small species of renkrodas, large predatory reptiles native to the continents of Asana and Ukulam in Castrovel.1
Appearance
Like other renkrodas, the whiskered renkroda is distinguished by long necks, decorative spines and deadly sprints, and further by the additional antennae that grow from its chin, which help it detect hiding prey. Like other renkrodas, a whiskered renkroda has a four-chambered heart and a throat that can expand up to twice its normal diameter, allowing it to gulp air quickly and circulate blood effectively while pursuing prey.1
Ecology
Whiskered renkrodas are ambush hunters, hiding in the trees while waiting to pounce at prey. Because many of Castrovel's herbivores boast deadly defences, whiskered renkrodas are fairly specialised predators. Some whiskered renkrodas can be initially timid around unfamiliar humanoids, unaware whether they are too dangerous or more trouble than they're worth, only likely to attack when hungry.1
Whiskered renkroda adolescent males sometimes form small gangs for mutual protection against bigger predators. They wander the forests, scattering when a dominant member emerges among the gang. This triumphant individual is typically aggressive, frequently destroying surroundings, roaring, scratching and marking with its scent to claim its territory.1
