Shadow hoppers are playful, mischievous hare-like cryptids that masquerade as harmless animals in order to play pranks.1

Appearance

In their true forms, shadow hoppers resemble large hares with sharp teeth and claw and charcoal-coloured fur. They spend most of their lives in the form of normal hares with grey fur, large eyes, floppy ears and a puffy tail.1

Ecology

Despite their terrifying appearance, shadow hoppers are not violent and usually live near other intelligent creatures, preferably in the countryside, where they allow people to adopt them as pets. They enjoy sowing mischief by playing pranks: biting others' food, moving items when no one is looking, whispering secrets to others via telepathy, or sabotaging electronics. Although shadow hoppers usually mean no harm, their antics often aggravate others, and in groups, they easily get carried away. Groups of shadow hoppers sometimes gather to cause as much chaos as possible in a night, though they otherwise prefer to settle in areas without others of their kind.1

Habitat

It is unknown whether shadow hoppers originated on the Shadow Plane or the First World, as they exhibit traits common to both fey and the Shadow Plane's natives. Some believe that they originated from one and migrated to the other before coming to the Material Plane. The shadow hoppers are tight-lipped on their origins.1
