Gravid Mound

The Gravid Mound is an egg-shaped mountain on Aucturn, which first expands outward and then narrows again. At its top is a wide caldera, which constantly overflows with a black, churning, roiling amnotic fluid. The thirteen Midwives, who rule over the nearby city of Amniek, believe that the Gravid Mound is the womb containing Aucturn's unborn child. They regulate the fluid, attempt to accelerate and shpeherd the impending birth of the demigod, understand its power, and hope that it will reward them by elevating them as its high priests when it finally bursts forth. Flying beasts, mixing the features of wasps and serpents, sip from the caldera, and some of them grow immensely on the fluid; the Midwives regard them as pests.
