Saltlash
Saltlash is a series of quaint, isolated fishing villages with a dark secret, located near a series of salt-filled cliffs on the shore of the Undulating Sea in southern Aucturn. While Saltlash's inhabitants resemble normal humans, closer inspection reveals them as inbred creatures and worshippers of a sea monster living nearby. Adapted to Aucturn's toxic atmosphere, they barely eke out a living, and every year, an immense squid-like tentacle emerges from the sea to the largest village, and drags a chosen sacrifice (usually a young resident of Saltlash) into the sea, in a joyless celebration known as the Festival of Tithing. Salt deposits touched by this tentacle can then be distilled into a powerful odourless, tasteless drug that heightens paranoia and commands a high price in Aucturn. In recent years, the population has been dwindling, forcing the residents of Saltlash to kidnap outsiders to feed to the tentacle.1
