Control module

A control module provides an interface between a computer and complex devices such as drones, starships, vehicles, weapons, med-beds, or other computers.

While almost any computer can control simple devices with binary states, such as doors and cameras, a control module is necessary for it to control devices complex enough that they would otherwise require a creature to operate it.

A control module must be installed in a computer and connected to the device it controls. Anyone with access to a computer and authorization to access the control module can then control that device. It can also act autonomously when triggered, such as when a countermeasure is activated.

On starships

Some starship computers have a specialized integrated control module (ICM) capable of providing assistance in combat situations.
