Secure data module
A secure data module, often called simply a data module, provides protected, removable data storage to a computer. It is often further secured behind a firewall or with a wipe countermeasure that can delete its data if accessed without proper authorization.12
Unsecured computers can store and share many types of data covering a vast array of subjects, but a secure data module contains data on a specific topic. Storage costs determined by the data's size and complexity.1 A secure data module can also be removed from a computer and physically destroyed.2 A user with root access can read, duplicate, create, or delete data in a secure data module, and other users granted access to the module via a firewall might have specific permission to access it.3
Because valuable information is often stored on secure data modules, they are a ripe target for hackers.1
Magical manipulation
Data modules can be rewritten by certain spells, such as implant data.4 Certain magical traps can also dump a creature's soul into a data module.5
