Bodysnatcher slime
Bodysnatcher slimes are intelligent, parasitic oozes that take control of their hosts' bodies, ostensibly created by an experiment during the Gap.1
Ecology
Bodysnatcher slimes have a complex nervous system capable of learning, memory and reasoning. When integrating with a host's body, it integrates with the host's own nervous system, allowing near-instant communication and replicating the host's neurons, growing more and more intelligent. However, in the process, the bodysnatcher slime can also develop multiple personalities that compete with each other, and as they grow large they find it harder and harder to fit within host bodies; as a result, most big bodysnatcher slimes split into two smaller ones. The rare few that hold enough control over their intelligence do not need to split, and become known as bodysnatcher autocrats.1
Inside a host, bodysnatcher slimes leech nutrients from the host, giving a faint citrus scent to its sweat and excrement. Outside a host, they can feed on a wide selection of foods, and enter hibernation if sustenance is rare. Bodysnatcher slimes are not malicious, but even the most intelligent autocrats do not understand that taking control of hosts against their will is unacceptable.1
Habitat
Bodysnatcher slimes have spread across the Pact Worlds system and the Veskarium among others. The Stewards frequently hire mercenaries to eliminate bodysnatcher slimes on Absalom Station, and in response they have learnt to avoid the Stewards. They are also common on Verces, where some Augmented consider them intelligent biotechnology to be integrated.1
