Unbound lashunta
During puberty, all lashuntas go through a self-directed genetic adaptation that transforms them into one of three distinct groups: the damayas, korashas, and the unbound lashuntas. Each group is not only physiologically different and distinct from the other two, but also has a higher chance of developing certain psychological traits. Unbound lashuntas are a recent development in lashunta culture in which adolescent lashuntas decide not to join one of the two more traditional lashunta groups (the damayas or korashas), but instead become a third genetic group that either incorporates traits from both of the others or traits that are entirely new. Mixed traits can include being both short (a korasha trait) and lithe (a damaya trait) or having colored markings all over one's body or fuzzy antennae (which are two traits unseen among the damayas or korashas). A growing group of unbound lashunta have recently begun experimenting with their genetics to unearth unique or long-dormant genetic traits, and it is unclear what the final outcome of this will be.1
