Troll polyps are ooze-like creatures splintered from trolls that can act independently.

Appearance

A troll polyp is an amorphous mass of tissue that measures 3 feet tall and weighs 40 pounds.

Ecology

Some troll polyps are created by experiments conducted by grays, who sever a troll's limbs and place the body and limbs in a superpositional state, in the hope of having the original troll regenerating the limbs and the limbs growing into new trolls. The experiments were only partially successful, creating quantum trolls and troll polyps. Troll polyps can also spontaneously form from injured quantum trolls, or from exposing a troll or polyp to planar portals or energies, which create tumours that sprout a polyp every 2 to 3 weeks.

Troll polyps are self-aware and have independent agency from the original trolls but are barely sentient, have no cognitive functions, and are only driven to kill and eat. They smash anything that seems to be artificial or any creature that is whole and ordered, only instinctively avoiding attacking their progenitor or each other. Without things to destroy, troll polyps seek to eat and hide in warm corners.
