Nisis is the largest asteroid in the Diaspora and the source of the River Between, a liquid water river that flows across the Diaspora. Although home to a few colonies of sarcesian settlers, Nisis' true natives are the aquatic predators known as diaspora wyrms.

Geography

Nisis is a 600-mile wide asteroid, with an icy crust covering a liquid water ocean.

History

According to the diaspora wyrms, their home originated as a subterranean sea on either Damiar or Iovo. When these two planets cracked and became the Diaspora, the chunk containing this sea remained intact, its outer layers eventually breaking away or sinking down into the core. This asteroid became Nisis.

Recently, Nisis' size has been slowly growing as its ice crust thickens. Some diaspora wyrm sages interpret this as the sign of Nisis eventually permanently freezing, which would force them to find a new home. Some of them have purposely darkened the water in Nisis' depths and released it in cycles across the ocean and to the River Between.

Inhabitants

Although claimed by the Pact Worlds, Nisis' true rulers are the diaspora wyrms, predators who lurk in its dark depths. They obey an ancestral mandate to protect the Broodnest, a gigantic coral reef floating within Nisis where they make their home and record their history.

The sarcesians who settled in Nisis live in underwater domes, outfitted with gas turbines and hydrogen extraction plants, attached to the underside of Nisis' icy crust. The largest of them are Ahilira, Merhja and Vaando. There are also dozens of small bunkers on the surface of Nisis, where the sarcesians flee to when their homes are swarmed by diaspora wyrms.
