Laoe Araae
Laoe Araae (meaning Lonely Dream) is a distant, isolated, quarantined colony in the storm bands of Bretheda's northern hemisphere, home to barathus infected by a fungal infection that spreads from barathu to barathu via merging, is able to resist every adaptation that they can employ, and spreads across its host until it can overtake the central nervous system, resulting in death. These barathus are attended by a small group of non-barathu caretakers, primarily kasathas, while researchers seek for a cure before the infection could become an epidemic. Their research suggests that the fungus was intentionally mutated, possibly by using barathu genetic material, by other barathus.1
