The Sopeth Corporation is a conglomeration consisting of thousands of the most intelligent barathu biotechnicians merged together into a single entity.1

Goal

Most of Sopeth's profits are made through the sale of conceptual technology to intermediaries for production and distribution. Sopeth's inventions have led to countless medical and biochemical advances, including some radical patents on artificial organs.1

Structure

Most believe that Sopeth's collective intelligence and decision-making capabilities are maintained by several hundred core members who have never split from the collective since it was founded. Only the most loyal barathu employees are allowed to merge with or split from Sopeth, usually to attend offworld conferences or oversee where the conglomerate is too big to fit. Sopeth only requires manual labour for limited testing, as most of its activities are automated.1

Sites

Due to its xenophobia, Sopeth feels no need to accommodate outworlders and is usually found in Bretheda's storm-wracked equatorial zone.1

Relationships

Sopeth sometimes cooperate with other barathu firms, allowing their representatives to merge with it, but those who do so to spy on or sabotage Sopeth find themselves unable to separate. Non-barathu infiltrators are sent to a concentration camp on one of Bretheda's death moons if they are lucky, or become test subjects in painful biotech experiments if they are not.2 Despite its disdain for humanoids, Sopeth seems fascinated by their fixed form and consciousness, and cites a loophole in Brethedan law that allows it to treat uninvited guests as company property, and subsequently dissect them.1

Due to these unethical measures, Confluence has economically censured Sopeth, although these measures are too weak to have any impact, since Confluence does not wish to escalate the situation in fear of a physical confrontation. Rumour has it that Sopeth is working on a method to force other barathus to merge with it and erase their individuality in the process, an anathema in barathu culture. Confluence is seeking freelancers to find evidence of Sopeth's wrongdoings to justify harsh measures, but no one has accepted this offer, out of fear of becoming unwilling lab rats.1
