King Xeros
More information about this subject might be available on PathfinderWiki. |
The King Xeros is a magical sailing vessel built by the ancient Azlanti of Golarion, millennia before the Gap, to traverse the Ethereal Plane. It is capable of moving between the Ethereal and Material Planes.1
History
The King Xeros featured in countless Golarian folktales, where it is described as a crystalline vessel that could fade in and out of reality. Throughout history, it was sighted multiple times, always appearing inexplicably, suddenly and briefly.1
Recently, drawn by the connection between the Ethereal Plane and the soil of the moon known as Peak of Evening, the King Xeros docked in its starship bay. The residents, puzzled by the appearance of the crewless ship, asked out the nearby civilisations for information. The Starfinder Society venture-captain Naiaj, perusing old Pathfinder Society documents, identified the ship as the King Xeros, a relic created by the Ancient Azlanti of Golarion; meanwhile, the Azlanti Star Empire immediately attacked and annexed Peak of Evening, for the purpose of drawing the King Xeros to New Thespera and unlock its secrets.1
As Naiaj, refusing to surrender such a link to the Pathfinder Society to the Azlanti Star Empire, petitioned the Starfinder Society for clearance for a salvage mission, Aldroxis, the Azlanti officer responsible for the assault on Peak of Evening, had difficulty researching and controlling the King Xeros' ancient magitech navigation system. Knowing that others will be drawn to his prize and unwilling to return with empty hands to his colleague Zolan Ulivestra, Aldroxis decided to retrofit the King Xeros with a modern Drift engine and weapons.1
Eventually, Aldroxis discovered that the King Xeros had originally been drawn to Peak of Evening by the native xenophage creepers, and by engineering wires and motherboards made from xenophage creeper vines and extending them through the crevasses on the ship's hull, he managed to gain rudimentary navigational control of the ship. However, he wasn't aware that the ethereal navigation system of the King Xeros conflicts with the Drift engine, causing a feedback loop that risks destroying the King Xeros.234
