Impostor
Impostors are nightmarish outsiders from the Astral Plane that are born from and feed off fear and insecurity.1
Appearance
Impostors resemble a distorted version of the creature that created it, with hollow eyes and elongated faces.1
Ecology
When a creature suffers from a moment of doubt, such thoughts can sometimes leave behind a psychic imprint on the Astral Plane. As such thoughts recur, the imprints can grow enough to coalesce into an impostor. Once created, the impostor can push its way to the Material Plane to kill its creator. As a creature born from doubt, an impostor can manifest it as a cold blade that seems to absorb light, but is vulnerable to foes that feel confident of themselves.1
After an impostor has killed its creator, it then sets out to spoil their reputation and accomplishments, taking advantage of its knowledge of all of its creator's shameful secrets and worst impulses. Once this job is thoroughly done, the impostor fades from existence and its energies are recycled by the Astral Plane.1
