Gloomwings are a species of purple moth-like outsiders with animal intelligence native to the Shadow Plane. Capable of slipping to the Material Plane, gloomwings lair in secluded, dark areas and seek living hosts for their eggs; when they hatch, their tenebrous worm larvae will devour the host as their first meal. Each gloomwing can lay eggs in several hosts per day, and their young are much more dangerous than adult gloomwings are. Gloomwings exude a pheromone-laden musk that induces lethargy and attracts other gloomwings and tenebrous worms. The chitin on their mandibles and head are pearlescent and valued by some jewellers and mystics..
