Frujai
Frujais are intelligent, mobile, predatory, eusocial fungi adapted to the fluctuating gravity of their home planet Orikolai.1
Ecology
Each frujai hive consists of a living hub colony and hundreds of workers and soldiers spawned by it. In the winter, they hibernate; once spring comes, they spread their spores which take root in the corpses of animals. If there are too few corpses, the colony starts to hunt. Juvenile frujais sprout from the infested corpses hunt and scavenge until early autumn, when they convene, fight and eat each other. Survivors disperse and hunt as much prey as possible to accumulate nutrition, which they then consume during the winter before maturing into a frujai colony.1
Frujai colonies can control gravity in various ways, from crushing foes to a pulp with gravity waves to levitating themselves. They and the soldiers spawned by them collect stones which levitate around themselves as some sort of wealth.1
Society
Frujais consider it their mission to clear the path for strong creatures by weeding out the weak, which they see colonists as. Large frujai colonies can sometimes be interviewed by xenobiologists, but it's impossible to predict whether the frujai will explore philosophy or feast upon the interviewer.1
