Communication

From StarfinderWiki

Most inhabitants in the Pact Worlds system rely on technological devices known as comm units for planet-wide, system-wide, and interstellar communication. While some powerful religious organizations or governments can call on the service of supernatural beings such as angels and devils to deliver their messages across vast distances, this is beyond the reach of most citizens.1

Planetary communication

Personal comm units are inexpensive devices that are capable of communicating with each other on a single planet, or to a spaceship in orbit. They are small enough to be carried in a pocket, and are generally integrated into most types of armor.1

System-wide communication

System-wide comm units are much larger than planetary ones, and are generally only located in buildings or starships. They require the use of Drift beacons to relay their communication. Due to the time delay of the Drift beacons, messages within a single solar system can take up to five hours to reach their intended receivers.1

Interstellar communication

Like system-wide communication, interstellar communication uses Drift beacons to relay the information, and can theoretically transmit to an unlimited distance. Due to the restrictions of travel through the Drift, interstellar communication takes as long as it would take a spaceship to travel the same distance.1
