Thermatrod
Thermatrods are a species of silicon-based beasts that thrive in extreme heat on various planets.1
Appearance
Thermatrods are normally quadrupedal like gorillas 
, but can switch to a bipedal gait. Their torso is made of various molten minerals, allowing them to digest heavy minerals; it's unknown how this silicon core can maintain such intense heat. Their cooler backside is made of interlocking raised hexagonal plates resembling basalt columns. A typical thermatrod stands 10 feet tall and weighs 1 ton, but exceptional specimens might weigh dozens of tons.1
A thermatrod's head lacks facial features other than a dripping maw which it uses to eat loose stones. Due to its chemical makeup, the thermatrod is blind and deaf, having been unable to evolve sensory organs; it instead senses heat and tremors with fine crystalline matrices in its head.1
