Stopgap
Stopgap is a lawless dwarf planet in the Foergrim system, inhabited by starmetal miners.1
Geography
Stopgap is the biggest object in the Foergrim system, outside of the star Foergrim itself. It is barely large enough to maintain a spherical shape, and has no atmosphere.
Government
There is no government in Stopgap, although the church of Abadar established a chapel to provide a system-wide government. The mining base is almost wholly owned by Druethil Minung Company, a subsidiary of Ichihara Holdings, though the parent company pays little attention to Stopgap itself.
History
Stopgap was the first place in the Foergrim system where significant starmetal deposits were discovered. As miners moved there, corporations collaborated to build airtight facilities that can support a few thousand residents, and Stopgap quickly became a famous exporter of djezet and small amounts of horacalcum, before the veins dried out.1
Inhabitants
Although the veins in Stopgap itself have since dried out, the base continues to be inhabited by a few hundred permanent residents. Every few years, one of them will discover a starmetal vein in an asteroid within the system, resulting in an asteroid rush that attracts hundreds of prospectors. Each asteroid rush usually lasts from 3 to 6 months, during which the prospectors usually discover several smaller veins, resulting in a semi-permanent population of miners. Due to the lack of governance, Stopgap is also home to a few mercenaries working short-term contracts for Druethil in exchange for room, board and starship repairs. As long as one pays the bills and causes no trouble, one is welcome at Stopgap.1
