Replicant oozes are oozes bioengineered by grays to replace those abductees whom they accidentally killed.1

Appearance

Replicant oozes are shaped into the form of intelligent creatures through electric shocks, or through consuming the desired creature's corpse, and are implanted with the brain of a recently-deceased person so they could function.1

Ecology

When a replicant ooze consumes a brain (or equivalent) of a creature that has been dead for a few minutes or less, it takes on the memories and personality of the 'donor'. The replicant ooze is unaware that it is not the real thing, and attempt to continue living out the original's daily life. However, the masquerade is imperfect: replicant oozes are slightly less intelligent and socially adept than the original creature, and over time, family and friends can discover that something is wrong. Because of this, they are only used as stopgap measures; eventually, the grays retrieve the ooze and replace it with a true clone, extracting the ooze's new memories and transferring them to the clone's brain.1
