Gray shells are incorporeal beings related to grays, inhabiting an exterior made from partially living organic material, created by the gray mysteriarchs to observe other species. They can be produced to resemble nearly any humanoid in the galaxy, and can be engineered to speak languages and exhibit cultural knowledge in the areas they infiltrate. Keen onlookers can distinguish a gray shell by its overly large eyes, smooth skin and hollow organs. When the gray shell is sufficiently hurt, its exterior falls away, revealing the incorporeal creature inside. Gray shells are still in the experimental stage and usually can only be seen in testing grounds.
