Eohis are a species of arboreal mammalian pack-hunting predators from the forest planet Nejeor IV that have also been introduced by the ancient kishalee to Nejeor VI.1

Appearance

Eohis are furry quadrupeds the size of large hounds. Their forelimbs are muscular and end in six-digited hands which can hang into trunks and branches. Male eohis have darker fur, ranging from black to slate gray, while female eohis are usually light brown, tan, or brindled. Eohis have sharp teeth, powerful jaws, large flaring nostrils and keen eyes capable of seeing well in dim light. An eohi stands about 2 feet tall at the shoulder and weighs almost 70 pounds.1

Ecology

Eohis hunt from the highest treetops, leaping from branch to branch to chase prey without being slowed down by the underbrush, or dropping down in a ring around prey to prepare for the kill. They are viviparous: young eohis are nursed by their mothers for the first 3 months of their lives before their fangs grow; afterwards, they feed on the carcasses left behind by their elders while learning from them until they become capable of taking down living prey and leave to form their own packs.1

Eohis were captured by the kishalee and brought to Nejeor VI as zoo attractions, where they remained popular until the collapse of kishalee civilisation. Many eohis starved or fell to their deaths alongside their host cities, while those in Istamak broke out of their cages, hunted the other animals in the zoo and established a stable population in the park. The kishalee's primitive kish descendants eventually tamed some eohis as hunting companions and guards against the city's other predators.1
