Ashypsozoan
Ashypsozoans are a species of massive siphonophores native to Ashypso.1
Appearance
An ashypsozoan's body is 12 feet long, but its tentacles can extend much farther. Most of its body is filled with gases, and it weighs around 200 pounds.1
Ecology
When Ashypso freezes, each ashypsozoan's individual zooids encysted, and when the ice melts, they emerge and bond into colonies. Each zooid is nearly mindless, but the colony possesses a predatory cunning.1
Ashypsozoans burrow through the ice and fly through the atmosphere in search of prey. They feed on anything from microorganisms to large prey that they take down with their substantial bioelectricity. Strong electromagnetic fields break down food into essential components and allow ashypsozoans to consume light inorganic materials, like the components of androids and trinirs.1
