Havinak's Vortex

Havinak's Vortex is a dangerous planet-sized portal in the Diaspora which appears twice annually, each time lasting from 10 to 30 minutes, sending everything caught in the gravity well to the Maelstrom. Azirian Havinak, namesake of the rift and the first person to return after entering it, speaks of a bizarre space station made of willpower, resembling an architectural chimaera, and inhabited by proteans. Havinak's later reports describe increasingly disturbing activities from the proteans and strange relics from the Maelstrom. A decade ago, Havinak failed to return, and no one has since dared to enter the vortex.
