Halls of Reason

The Halls of Reason are the largest contemplative research hermitage, located near the equator of Akiton. It consists of numerous windowless cubic towers, most of which are filled with cutting-edge technology, except a dozen that are completely devoid of electronics, where residents concentrate on esoteric conundrums. After the Drift was revealed, the contemplatives dug a vast tunnel network and sealed labs, which block technological communication and allow them to listen to telepathic projections of distant species across the cosmos. The contemplatives reveal that they have made contact with at least five such unknown species from unexplored parts of the universe, but refuse to reveal more details, while digging ever deeper and exterminating the subterranean beasts that infest them.
